From 4 March to 18 June 2023, the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation and the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation come together to celebrate the stars of contemporary art with the exhibition Reaching for the Stars. From Maurizio Cattelan to Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. Over 70 works by the most important Italian and international contemporary artists, including Maurizio Cattelan, Cindy Sherman, Damien Hirst, Lara Favaretto, William Kentridge, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Sarah Lucas, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Sandretto Re Collection Rebaudengo, one of the most prestigious collections of contemporary art at an international level.
Curated by Arturo Galansino, Director General of the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, Reaching for the Stars explores the main artistic research through a constellation of works exhibited in all the spaces of Palazzo Strozzi. Between painting, sculpture, installation, photography and video, the exhibition enhances the dialogue between the Renaissance palace and contemporary art, offering visitors a journey to discover the great stars of global art of recent decades.

Reaching for the Stars: the itinerary of the exhibition
Through the perspective of over 50 artists from all over the world, the exhibition presents itself as an opportunity to reflect on the present and the future of art, openly restoring its variety, evolution and its relationship with contemporary society .

Reaching for the Stars offers an itinerary that involves all the spaces of Palazzo Strozzi, from the Piano Nobile to the Strozzina up to the Renaissance courtyard. Here GONOGO is presented, a new installation by the artist Goshka Macuga: a monumental space rocket that invites you to a journey with multiple meanings.

The exhibition itinerary highlights great works of British art by artists such as Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor and Sarah Lucas, together with a wide selection of works by Maurizio Cattelan, central to an exploration of Italian art together with female artists such as Paola Pivi and Lara Favaretto. In parallel there are sections dedicated to identity, the body and the mythologies of the present, addressing themes such as fragility and alienation, racial and gender discrimination, the relationship between the community and individuality, with iconic works by Cindy Sherman, Barbara Kruger, Pawel Althamer, Josh Kline, Shirin Neshat.
