In the footsteps of Donatello on Tuscan soil, 19 March - 31 July 2022

On the occasion of the Donatello, il Rinascimento exhibition, the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation proposes the special Donatello in Tuscany initiative: a journey through the region in the footsteps of the "master of masters" and his works.

The Donatello, il Rinascimento exhibition presents itself as a historic and unrepeatable opportunity that reconstructs, through over 130 works in the two locations of Palazzo Strozzi and the Bargello National Museum, the extraordinary journey of one of the most important and influential masters of the art of all times, in comparison with other great artists, not only of his time. Thanks to the Donatello project in Tuscany, the exhibition opens to the discovery of over 50 works by Donatello scattered throughout the region which, during the period of the exhibition, represent the opportunity for further immersion in Donatello's universe.

The map
A journey that starts from Palazzo Strozzi, in Florence and continues between the provinces of Arezzo, Pisa, Prato and Siena, thanks to a special thematic map that links 16 different places in an idea of ​​widespread exposure. Distributed free of charge in paper format, and available online with in-depth information and information on the places, on the works and enriched by all the images, the map of Donatello in Tuscany becomes an essential tool for deepening and getting to know the works of the master in the territory of the region.

The route winds through 16 points of interest in Florence: Palazzo Strozzi, Bargello National Museum, Orsanmichele, Basilica of San Lorenzo, Basilica of Santa Croce, Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore (with Baptistery, Cathedral, Museo dell'Opera del Duomo), Palazzo Vecchio Museum, Stefano Bardini Museum, Santa Trìnita Church; in Arezzo: Cathedral; in Pisa: National Museum of San Matteo; in Pontorme: Church of San Martino; in Prato: Museum of the Opera del Duomo and Cathedral, Palazzo Pretorio Museum; in Siena: Opera of the Siena Metro (Baptistery, Cathedral, Museo dell’Opera del Duomo); in Torrita di Siena: Church of Sante Flora and Lucilla.

The publication
In the tradition of the Palazzo Strozzi Fuorimostra, which on the occasion of each exhibition proposes itineraries throughout Tuscany to create connections between the current exhibition and museums, cultural institutions and local partners, the Donatello project in Tuscany becomes the expression of a of the core values ​​of the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation: the enhancement of the metropolitan area of ​​Florence and the whole region thanks to the search for synergies and collaborations that stimulate the cultural promotion of the territory.

On the occasion of the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation and Marsilio Arte project, they also propose the publication Donatello in Toscana, a volume edited by Francesco Caglioti that suggests an itinerary among the artist's works preserved in the region, through cards dedicated to each place and a rich iconographic apparatus .

Guided tours
The project is enriched with 26 guided itineraries in search of the works of the "master of masters" kept in our region, created thanks to Unicoop Firenze.

The visits, lasting half a day, will take place on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 May to 31 July 2022 in the following places in Florence: Orsanmichele, Church of Santa Trìnita, Palazzo Strozzi, Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Basilica of San Lorenzo, Palazzo Vecchio Museum, Stefano Bardini Museum, Opera del Duomo Museum and Baptistery, Basilica of Santa Croce; in Prato: Cathedral, Opera del Duomo Museum and Palazzo Pretorio Museum; in Pisa: National Museum of San Matteo; in Arezzo: Cathedral and Diocesan Museum; in Siena: Cathedral, Baptistery and Opera del Duomo Museum.
